My favourite things … TO DRAW!
For my project, I chose to make my theme Favourite Things to Draw.
As I ported my process over from Photoshop to Affinity, truly, the biggest struggle was the 3 key things we did in this class — these took me the longest to figure out.
1) Removing the paper background from my inky marks
2) Using the inky mark as a re-colourable clipping mask
3) Using vector shapes to mask other layers/groups in various ways.
It could be that I'm so used to working in Photoshop that these all felt very counter-intuitive to me. But now that I'm used to Affinity, I can actually see how some would find doing these things in Affinity may actually be more efficient—especially the paper background removal step!
I'll start by sharing my final illustration, and then share some of the process images below.
