My First Urban Scetch

My First Urban Scetch - student project

I’m in my 5th month of learning watercolour, and I wanted to try an urban-style line-and-wash painting.

I found the tutorial very easy to follow. Shiba’s directions and demonstrations were very helpful throughout the process. I especially liked the use of a W&N Cotman palette - it makes it much easier for a beginner to “join in” and takes away the frustration of not having a particular shade or some rare unicorn-dust colour. 😄

I actually haven’t used my Cotman palette for a few months, so it took me a while to figure out that Prussian Blue is the closest alternative to Phthalo Blue. So, if your version of the Cotman palette is similar to mine and doesn’t include an intense blue, bear that in mind.

Overall, I’m very pleased with the outcome, and I’m inspired to try more of these!
