I decided to create two mixed media pieces for this class in large part because I was so pleased with how my painted papers and backgrounds came out I just wanted to play with them. The first piece was more directly inspired by the class itself, I am not generally a landscape artist so I decided to create a similar mountain scene using chalk pastels instead of oils as it is what I had on hand and gold pen for the hightlights to tie in with the yellow in the sky:

For the second piece I went more abstract, since this is the way I tend to work and I wanted to just play with the media the way I naturally would play with ink and watercolour. The colours and layering in this one made me think of green and purple flourite and again, I added the gold to warm the whole thing up and give it some sparkle and interest, particularly in the light. It still has a landscape quality too it as well; it brings to mind patchwork fields and a lake with hills in the horizon:
