Kids can be tough because their features are so incredibly soft with no texture, but I'm so happy you persisted and completed the painting.You most definitely managed to utilize the whole value spectrum with great depth in the final result! Love the rosy cheeks and subtle color variation in the face.And what a kind face as well! really well captured!Thank you so much for sharing and thank you for the kind review as well.

You're not wrong - getting enough depth without going too dark can be quite the challenge! I actually specifically chose fair skin for this class about values for that reason (though there'll of course be a class focusing on deeper skin tones later this year). But I think you did great with this one! Would not have guessed thay you found the lighter areas to be a challenge.

Thanks Tanja. I think light skin is harder because there is such a variation in tones. That whiteness around his mouth throws me off.

I just couldn't get this kid's likeness, but I think I got pretty good values. His face grew wider on me and I didnt want to quit and start over
