Mineral Paper - hot mess

Mineral Paper - hot mess - student project

This class was both fun and frustrating. I viewed this course initially a couple of months ago but wasn't ready to try mineral paper. I finally  gave it a shot and it is definitely challenging. It is thin and flimsy but since it is a super smooth surface, there are options for reactivating some media and therefore a different level of manipulation. My first attempt with acrylic paint went well. Here are the samples. I used my home made silicone spatula turned scraping tool and palette knife.

I then tried a second set of two which I feel turned out to me a hot mess. I listened, and added more layers. Here are the samples. I used acrylic paint and layers on top of layers with scrappers, palette knife and then at least three stencils.

I then tried using watercolor and pearlescent ink. The copper pearlescent ink clumped or broke up similar to when I used it with rubbing alcohol. I didn't get the wispy effect I was looking for so I still have not taken the tape of of this one.

For the next sample I chose to use inks on the mineral paper, but found that they take a long time - days in fact to dry. I also discovered that they can easily be reactivated which was fun but didn't give me the results I was originally looking for.
