Meet Walt ! My original character

After following Segolene's class, I finally took the courage to create my OC. The character that would inspire me to create my own cartoon.

As recommended by the teacher, I brainstormed and started asking myself what this character would be like.

I have always had a soft spot for the Grinch, as I find his appearance reassuring for some reason. Therefore, I wanted my character to remind people of the Grinch without feeling they had the same appearance and that I basically stole his look.

To continue on that reassuring and comfy look, I started looking on the internet at the cutest animals on Earth but didn't find one that really spoke to me. That's when out of the blue, I had the image of the Yeti from Monsters, Inc. popping into my head. He looked so nice, warm, and fluffy.

With those two references, I knew what my character would look like.

But what would he be like?

I made a choice to give my character a very sympathetic and warm appearance, so I believe it was only fitting to create a contrast with his personality and make him a little bit more... relatable.

It is not going to sound very original, but I based my character's personality on my own. My character would be an excuse for me to express myself and say and do as I please.

Of course, to make him more interesting and funnier, I would emphasize all my personality traits so they could match his own story.

Now about his name. That was quite a difficult part. I didn't want just to give him a random name like Patrick or Jack ( great names, by the way ). I wanted it to mean something.

As a multitude of names went through my head, Walt's turn came. I suddenly realized how it sounded like the word 'what.' Now, I love this word and use it maybe too much cause a lot of things confuse me in this world, and THE word that I feel best expresses my emotions is 'what.'

I decided to make Walt a non-binary character (even if his name sounds masculine) so that he can be relatable to anyone.

While creating him, I came to really love Walt and believe he and I will do great things together!

Thank you Segolene for this class that though me a lot about drawing and creating an OC, which I hope will lead to a story !
