Lucius - Cutting Edge

Lucius - Cutting Edge - student project

Description

• Meet Jed
• Use telekinesis to break the light behind him without being seen
• Give him a new lightbulb
• Wait for him to climb the table
• Use telekinesis to start the saw beneath Jed and kill him

1) Does the puzzle present the player with a clear goal or objective?
Once you get close to Jed, the camera enters a slow motion mode and goes red, focusing on him. From that point, the player knows he's gonna have to kill Jed.

2) Does the puzzle present the player with a clear way to start solving the puzzle?
No. There are no visual or audio hints that indicate that breaking the light behind Jed is the way to start solving the puzzle.

3) Does the puzzle give the player an indication of their progress in solving the puzzle?
Yes, by changing NPC's behaviour, their lines and by updating Lucius journal.

4) Does the puzzle give the player confidence that they can actually solve it?
Yes. Lucius have the power he needs to kill Jed.

5) Is the puzzles difficulty successfully linked with the games flow?
Yes. This is the forth killing on the game and the difficulty is not so high yet.

6) Does the puzzle feature multiple parallel processes and minimize bottlenecks?
Yes. The player can clean Lucius' room to increase his "good behaviour" bar during this chapter.

7) Is the puzzle structured as a hierarchy of smaller puzzles and if so, does it work to extend player interest?
Yes. First the player needs to find a way to break the lamp. Then, find a new lightbulb and give it to Jed. When Jed is fixing the light, the player needs to find a way to kill him.

8) Does the game give good hints to prevent player stagnation during the process of solving?
The game shows hints on Lucius's journal, like "I should mess with him" or "I think I saw a lightbulb upstairs". You can also talk to other NPCs so they point you to the right direction (one of the maids tells Lucius that Jed is in the house)

9) Is the completion of the puzzle rewarding to the player within the game?
Yes. Killing Jed progresses the story and Lucius gets closer to gaining new powers.
