Lotus
That was a really relaxing class! I loved to play with the colors, working wet-into-wet, creating beautiful soft transitions. I did a similar project for the 'Watercolor Trends' class but was not happy with the final result... but I just love this second attempt :) The background is still the most difficult part (getting the edges nice and sharp), but I enjoyed a lot.
After I cut the paper to a square for the class project, I decided to use the remaining part for a bookmark - this way I could test my colors and brush strokes.
» Process photos below (sorry about the bad lighting, I was painting at night).
Sketch on watercolor paper Canson Aquarelle XL 300gsm
First washes with Koh-I-Noor watercolors
Deepening color and adding details (i used white gouache instead of gel pen)
Starting the background - the isolated sections created by the compostion really helps us to work on the background
Completed!
