Lilies that Pop on White Paper
This is my first class with you Helen and I’ve readied myself for more! Thank you for preparing the class slides, and the paint layer guide, I found them so helpful. I didn’t realize you left some of the white paper on the first layer, so I ended up painting the flowers completely with the first soft layer. It worked out ok, since it was so light. There were other instructions I missed because I find it difficult to pause or rewind and then find my way back to where I was, but it all worked out :):) The four paints I used were easy to mix and blend in creating my chosen colors. I used Indigo, Quin Magenta, New Gamboge and Hooker’s Green.
I might have just missed this, but did you tell us during class why you recommend using the hot press instead of cold press paper? I used Hot Press 100% cotton (Arches), but found painting the background on this paper a challenge. I worked it out and was satisfied with the end results, but I would love to know your reason.
In assessing my own painting, I think I also could have used a little more color in my lilies, or at least tried blending in a little more contrast color. Thank you again for a wonderful class!
Side Note: If you saw my review, you know that I had troubles following the class, but it had nothing to do with your video or teaching, it’s the Skillshare video platform that is in place for students. Especially taking detailed classes like this one, I find I need to pause and rewind many times, which is extremely difficult to do watching the Skillshare videos. I found myself quite frustrated more times than I should have allowed lol…..but…..your teaching was captivating so I stuck it out…and so glad I did :)
