Let’s Dive Deep Into SD-WAN And SD-WAN Security! - student project

SD-WAN is the modern network that is being used almost all companies as it helps to remove all geographical barriers and allows them to connect with different branches in different locations all over the world. It will enable connecting various sub-branches to the central branch and helps to control and manage the traffic on the applications. The primary aim of SD-WAN is to provide a good level of security to the user and simplify different important operations. It also prioritizes the traffic to the app by directing important traffic to the low latency path as there are fewer disturbances.

If we talk about sd-wan security, then it is related to IPsec, firewalls, and VPN tunnels. It also focuses on segmenting the traffic on the application and prioritizing it to ensure that it remains safe, and even if there is any theft, the damage is minimal. In the virtual world, there is a lot of threats for applications, and SD-WAN security keeps it secure and saves a lot of time and money.

What are the basics related to SD-WAN security

SD-WAN uses most of the public internet, along with different connections and networks. It ensures that all the traffic passing through the network is safe, and no one can interfere with the traffic. There are a few basic elements that ensure that the traffic remains untouched.

Proper authentication is done by the receiver, sender, and the packets that are received and sent over the network.

Keys are encrypted, which is shared by the hosts, or sometimes private key encryption is also used to ensure safety and privacy.

All the packets are checked to ensure that they are not tampered as it tampering can be a threat to the traffic moving on the network.

Excellent visibility enhances the security

The most significant security benefit of SD-WAN is that it offers high visibility on network traffic. It allows the admin to manage the network properly as he can easily monitor all the traffic and packets. It helps to keep an eye on all aspects and ensure that all the applications are working perfectly, and all the necessary aspects related to security and troubleshooting are working correctly. The amount of visibility may differ as it highly depends on SD-WAN vendor as some use the level of the device, whereas other focuses on the application level. It helps them to ensure that the source of sending the traffic is safe and trusted or not.

It also keeps them updated with other information such as network bandwidth, the number of resources used by them, etc. SD-WAN establishes different security-related policies that put a specific limitation on the ability of users to access different IP addresses or applications. Most of the security features offered by SD-WAN are based on the visibility of the traffic.
