Made a scetch on paper, imported a photo of it in Affinity Designer on the I-pad. Used the pencil for a handdrawn feeling and exported it as a Tiff to Illustrator on the desktop. Then image trace and making a pattern, in different colorways as shown in the course. Learned a few new things on the go, thank you Helen for your clear explanation!
