This is very impressive, Isaiah! You did a great job at capturing the depth of the landscape and using your edges to create atmosphere. If you want to push it further, don't be afraid to go even darker with your shadows. At sunrise and sunset, light contrast is usually quite dramatic. Having said that, I actually think you've created quite a nice hazy mood with the tones you've chosen. But have fun and experiment!One more tip – it's always difficult to get a really bright highlight in an oil painting, such as the sun. I'll usually leave the white canvas bare in that spot and then add titanium white mixed with a touch of yellow with a clean brush. It's a lot easier adding a bright highlight to bare canvas, rather than layering on top of another paint color.What did you find the most challenging during this process? Thank you!  I really appreciate your feedback!  I don't really have a foundation for art.  I've never taken classes so I'm not really sure what I don't know.  

I think getting better at creating depth in terms of highs and lows in a landscape i.e. a deep valley.  I think building a painting with a focal point and good composition is a need to being able to improve.  Attention to detail might be a 3rd.

I would like to be able to have someone critique my paintings.  I really feel that getting feedback from an experienced artist will help me improve. 

Would you suggest doing this painting a second time with your suggestions or just keep them in mind for the future?

Don't feel intimidated by not having a formal art education. You have a good eye for detail (which you can't teach!). One of the most valuable things you can do is to keep a sketchbook and start carefully observing the world around you. Pay attention to the way different forms of light affect color, how objects look different at different times of day, etc. 

Composition is tricky for everyone. There are a number of classes on here that teach it, but I also think just looking at lots of great art is very helpful! If you don't have a good museum near you, used art books are great (take notes in the margins about what you observe, trace over the shapes that are made by objects and planes in the painting). 

You could also see if there are any art evening classes or workshops in your area. This is a great opportunity to befriend other artists and get in person feedback on your work.

As for your painting, that's entirely up to you! As it stands, I think it is a successful painting, but there's nothing wrong with tweaking and tinkering (I myself have trouble putting down the brush and calling something finished).
