Gouache and WC on Arches CP

Another awesome class! Rosalie has so many tips and ideas. I recommend this class for anyone who enjoys painting natural subjects. 

I tend to interpret the subject of choice in a class as a prompt so I decided to brainstorm. There were a few runners up before choosing my subject : puffer fish, chameleon and snake were several. I'll likely take another shot at this down the road.

I used Pinterest for source images and played around with composition until I found something that kind of worked. This was the most difficult part for me. 

The palette is usually easy, as I used a triad for gouache and decided on a complementary scheme, emphasizing the blue and orange. I decided to later add some iridescent medium to the back of the fish (hard to see in photo but I got a close up). Finally, I outlined the gouache elements for a cleaner look.
