The project I created in the class is a traditional-styled still-life focusing on food and drink with an emphasis on the lighting. I choose to ultimately paint the final piece in Raw Umber to bring an older and warmer aesthetic to the mood.

The composition focuses on the contrast of the bright window light illuminating the grapes on the right, which is further contrasted by a deeper descent into shadow on the left. The wine bottle and glass are left less sharp to keep them as supporting elements to the main focus.

My still-life was set up next to a South facing window to bring in stronger light and create dramatic contrast.
