Is anybody listening?

Is anybody listening? - student project

Hi everyone

Thanks for having a look.

MAIN IDEA:

So I really tried going of my first brainstorm. Which really revolved around a few ideas, which seem important to me throughout my whole life. One of which is playfulness. Why are people so serious? Pierrot Lunaire. Buster Keaton's film where he tries to kill himself for about half an hour in a slapstick format is truly a masterpiece. Because everybody laughs, because it's slapstick, but it's pretty serious. Or depression with comedians is something that strikes me as well.. Robin Williams or Jim Carey.

I love stop motion because it makes immaterial things come to life. I love a fantasy world where non-living things come to life.

I tried experimenting with the toys of my son and wanted a contrast with the content (like Buster Keaton). (I also did another skillshare-class where I did a self-portrait with a similar idea)

OMISSIONS:

I'll talk a bit about shots I omitted. One was one of my son playing with the toys. I didn't like the idea that this was his mind. Nor did it visually have the same character.

I also omitted a shot that I think is prettier than the ambulance one. But I omitted it, because it was a similar style shot as the others and wanted a close-up. Also, I really wanted to make clear it's the mind of person. So I wanted human intervention somewhere.

I also had the idea of having the crane put sugars in my coffee. But I wanted the main concept to be as strict as possible. So I'll put a positive note in another time. Because I too think that it shouldn't just be depressing. But I couldn't find something that fit with the other pictures. (I love a picture I have of my son playing with a toy plane.. Because you can see his fantasy.)

TECHNICAL NOTES:

As to shots. I did everything with a 50mm macro lens. (a canon fd)

I'm least content with the crane picture. Because it looks fake. And I wanted it dreamier. Also the flash wasn't set up super, so you get a giant blob of overexposure. Ow. And I used a bike light to light the figure. (which made it stand out too much)

CLOSING THOUGHT:

Just a few days ago something terrible happened with a family member and I hope this is perceived as in good taste. One of the last lines of my brainstorm was: Who is listening? Which might be the main thought. The feeling of nobody listening... And I hope that the hand with the ambulance.. Well.. That I hope we all listen and there will always be somebody that's going to be there. I don't know.
