Intro to gouache - botanicals projects
Hello!
I'm sharing my works and thoughts from through-out this class below, thanks for checking it out.
Having a traditional (dry media) art background myself I obviously heard of gouache. I never used or paid attention to it much before this class. To refresh myself...I did a quick Google search on its analog/traditional use.
Knowing that it’s a wet medium, water-based just like watercolor, but more opaque—I found helpful to keep in mind when i was painting these projects digitally.
Thank you to Teela for sharing this class (and the brushes!) with us! It’s obvious to me a lot of thought and care went into creating this class.
Warmup 1: Rose branch
Warmup 2: eucalyptus
I loved the layering technique Teela shows us in this! I’m not new to layering but definitely learned some tricks! If anyone is new to layering or digital art in general and reading this before taking the class, don’t worry, the walkthrough is extremely easy to understand for any levels. Teela has your back! Lol

Warmup 3: Primroses
After warmup 2 I started to bend some of “rules” of the flat style but I tried to keep additional details to minimum (which for me, like Teela mentioned too in later lesson, is a challenge in and of itself lol). Coincidentally I’d also just painted primroses myself recent so that may be a factor. So there’s hints of additional dimension in the projects from here going forward, but they’re still flat, I think :) or flattish lol
Warmup 4: Purple asters
Thank you to Teela for sharing this class (and the brushes!) with us! It’s obvious to me a lot of thought and care went into creating this class.
