Inspiring Illustrations: Cross Your Sea
The striking simplicity of this quote spoke to me:
"You can't cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water." - Rabindranath Tagore
So often when we want something, we struggle to even start. Our time is spent worrying about how we'll get there. We imagine those nice to haves, but because we don't take action, they become never haves.
I come back to this quote whenever I feel scared to take that first step. This class is one of those steps that I can take so that "crossing my sea" becomes less daunting.
Moodboard:
Inspired by the blues of the water, the beauty of my ancestral home city of Udaipur, India, and these dreamy vibes.
Sketch:
This motivational poster is a reminder to look at my artistic journey with a sense of wonder rather than anxiety or doubt.
I chose to frame my sea with a touch of fantasy to represent the sense of wonder I have on this path. The flowering branches of the frame and the bougainvillea hanging in the archway represent new possibilities all around. Choosing to set it in Udaipur, India (a place my parents are from known as the City of Lakes), shows that while the journey may be unknown, there is a comfort and familiarity in knowing that it's meant for me.
Illustration:
I chose a palette of blues. Blue often represents trust or stability, which helps instill a sense of calm on what can be a tumultuous journey. I added an ocean wave texture to the water and marble print to the floor outside the archway using the technique taught in this class.
Any constructive feedback is welcome!
