Love it. Especially the first "Y" in the pink badge.

Epic! Love the progression and the black/white circle iteration is supah sweet.

Oh, well this is just getting better and better. SERIOUSLY, buddy...GREAT WORK. 

I like the idea of the circular background and the white on black looks great.  I'm unsure about the placing of the letters on the circle and the Y.  Perhaps if the swoop on the Y was a little lower?

I think you've strayed too far! I like where 14 March was heading the best. The Y just needed to be flipped in direction but have a descender like that of the K. The Y can then sit closer the the rest of the word. The curve on top of the S in 15 March is working well

thanks for replying again Kitty, now I'm torn. Do you like the rest of what I did with it? I didn't fully understand the comments from Neil about ascenders and found it easier to move the first word above the second which seemed to solve any ascender issues to me. I did try flipping the Y as you and Torrie suggested but didn't like the feel of it so adding the curl was my solution. I think I may have to try some Y variations before attempting vectoring.

I'm not too sure about the new Y. It looks a bit awkward to me and it's not really looking like a Y anymore. Again, maybe try flipping the direction? And/or maybe extend it underneath the whole word? (this applies to the latest version)

I don't fully understand what Neil is saying either. But the new composition works well too if you plan on adding those flourishes. The r needs to have the two distinct strokes to it like you have in your previous versions. And your spacing in 'yourselves' is much tighter than in 'kill'. Don't forget to use some guides too for consistency!

Also just a suggestion to make things easier. Once you've got a solid basic structure in terms of your letterforms that you're happy with, just trace them without tracing the parts you're not happy with and roughly ink it up. That way you only have to worry about playing around with the parts you're not liking whilst being able to keep the other parts consistent and intact. This might not work for you but it did for me :)

Kitty, I've only just spotted this reply...was gonna do a variation as you and Torrie suggested. I just traced what I had and left it at that. Illustrator scares the shit out of me as I never use it so was just glad to finish what I did. Will try a bit more tomorrow.

the last pencil version I did was actually scanned and moved about in photoshop (and warped to curve it slightly) this was a first for me. I then dropped the opacity to 15% and printed then drew over the top to make it easier to make changes. I guess this was my version of your tracing method.

Down to business... if you're happy with how it's looking now, I don't want to critique you any further. I don't want to muddle up your brain but if you'd like me to give more feedback let me know. 

i think the second option for the bottom of the "Y" is better but i would increase the vertical distance in between the bottom of the first curve and the curl in the descender. (make sense?) The second sketch where the descender is coming to the right looks too much like a "q"

Great job, Tony. I really like the look of your letterforms. Very precise and yet fun at the same. Can't wait to see what you do next.

This is fantastic! Really love the style and how contradictory it is to the quote. 

Maybe try swapping the direction of the y descender. And/or extending its ascender height to match the others. 

Also maybe adding a very slight suggestion of a curve to the top of the s to make it read more like an s.

I agree - it's readable as-is, but changing the y descender would work better I think. I really like the way you've treated the double-l, the k-i ligature, and the overall balance and rhythm of the letterforms. 

i agree as well.  i think the y descender just needs to change directions and also i agree with the top of the 's.' for some reason i keep wanting to see a bit more of a curve up there, even though i can see it is a cursive s... just a slight curl at the top maybe?

Very nice! spaced very well, and love that you are working with guides, really reads nice. Love that it has a playfulness and friendliness to it as well, since the phrase is extremely negative! Very contradicting! For the Y I like how have the idea of swash coming off of it. I seen that you had to make the ascender longer on the Y for that swash to happen, which is natural, but to counter that you may want to try lengthening the ascender on the K as well to match that Y if you do end up doing that. you could also try as I think another student had, is the Y mimicking the the ascender of the K. Keep up the great work!

Nice sketches and the letterforms look very bold. I especially like that K to I ligature! For the Y what if you make it loop like the rest of your decenders but have the tip flourish and extend under the OU? That would give it some small flourishment bit also seperate it from the rest of te letters. 

This is off to a super great start! 
While you're still in the sketching phase, you may want to experiment with having the ascenders raise up extra high to match the stuff you're doing with the super low decenders on the s.

I like the way you started to sketch out the bottom of the y in the second image, where it goes under the rest of the word. The whole thing is lovely!

can the bottom of the "y" just mirror the bottom of the "k?"
