Here is my version of this project.  I used a floral pattern and garnets.  The garnets are only 5mm so I made a smaller, more rectangular silver part.

I am including a photo of a pair of earrings I made last summer that uses the same idea of the cabachon partway off the base.  The stone in these is iolite, a very pale lavender.
