Gothic flowers

Gothic flowers - student project

I loved the colours and how easy you made it look. This was my first time using any gouache (I bought the carmine for this project) and loved the thick, smooth texture. I also really appreciated the tips about use of colours and mixing.

My practice peonies weren't great - I made the mistake of going back and "adding" to them as I liked the colour variations in the video and thought I may have missed a step out. As you can see that was not the right thing to do!

I was happier with my roses though I could have gone heavier with the dark layer.

I don't think I mixed quite the same colours for the leaves as was demonstrated and I slapped the paint on a bit too heavily for the first dahlia, but the second one shows some colour variation so I prefer that one.

For the project I largely followed the arrangement as demonstrated in the video, though without direct reference to the image. I now realise I would have been better off with black gouache in place of watercolour.

Overall I am pleased with the result and will try my own composition at some point.
