Getting Into Oil Pastels!

Getting Into Oil Pastels! - image 1 - student project

Hi teacher! Thank you so much for this class, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It felt like the perfect length and format for me to get started with a new medium, make breakthroughs, and finish a first project in one sitting.

This is my first attempt at oil pastels and I encountered some difficulties that I wasn't able to figure out.
For one, I struggled with defining the edges of the apple, you may notice that I tried to cover it up with blue along the edges...
I was also aiming for this to look more textured (having more of the strokes show through) I'm guessing I might have overblended mine because I was also smudging? I tried to compensate by drawing stray strokes at the end. But as a result, I feel like mine is in an awkward inbetween of textured/not textured haha. 😅
Maybe I should also vary the size of my strokes? I feel they look too uniform but maybe this is because I'm working with a fresh set of pastels so all the edges are still sharp...

It was really helpful for me to follow along your process because I'd be so lost otherwise. I also appreciate your very engaging style of teaching, I learned so much. I'm hoping to take this further with more practice. I'll definitely refer back to your lessons here in my next attempts. Thanks again!
