This projected started as a gauge swatch, but I ended up freestyling a washcloth! 

My main goal was to practice single crochet and figure out how to finish a project (sew in the ends), and as a little bonus I made a little loop, too! (not pictured)

I had a lot of fun figuring this crochet out, and I am going to make similar wash clothes for the other types of stitches covered here. 

I know how to make gauge swatches now, which will be a big help later on!
