For my event promotion project I wanted to create a postcard and social media post for a garden party themed event. This is a fictional cocktail party event that I wanted to portray as more dark and sophisticated.

I started by selected my tone keywords I wanted to direct my overall design: 

1. modern
2. moody

Then I sketched my thumbnail visual ideas to experiment with composition in my postcard rectangular format.

 

 

Once I picked my 14th sketch to move forward with, I got onto the computer in InDesign and started to bring that little postcard sketch to life.

My final design didn't look exactly like my sketch because I had to adapt to the real 5"x7" format and make decisions based off of how my design evolved with my imagery and text. I used my instincts and made sure the composition felt balanced and structured in a way that helped readability. 

 

Once I was happy with my postcard design, I altered that design into a square Instagram post format. I eliminated some details that appeared in the postcard design because online we can link to more details instead of crowding the image with a bunch of text.
