The three butterflies on the left (blue, red, green) were done in watercolor. I painted the wings in slightly lighter tones to be able to add darker details on top.

For the two butterflies on the right (yellow, orange) I worked with gouache. Adding lighter highlights on a dark background is possible with this kind of paint, and the decoration is inspired by embroidery patterns.
