Hi! Thanks for this course!
I was able to make my first original song in a few hours, I really enjoyed it
I tried to accompany myself on the guitar, even if I'm a beginner. The result isn't great but it was fun.
The song is in French because I am French :)
What is the song about ?
The "Bec-en-sabot du Nil" is a very weird kind of bird (which looks a bit like a dinosaur), I dreamt about it last night, so I wanted to make my song exercise about it
I tried to focus on the emotion and the storytelling, as you advised Clover :) If you have any advice about the lyrics or anything I'd love to hear it
For those who don't speak French, I tried to translate the story in English if you are interested:
J’ai emprunté un rêve, l’autre nuit
Au fond d’un tunnel, il y avait un nid
D’un grand oiseau gris
=> I borrowed a dream, the other night
At the bottom of a tunnel, there was a nest
Of a big grey bird
Elle couvait là, où ne se dressait pas un arbre
Une courroie en cuir la muselait
En survolant le chantier puis la forêt
Elle attrapait ses proies
=>It brooded there, where no tree stood
A leather strap muzzled it
Flying over the construction site and the forest
She caught her prey
Le bec-en-sabot du nil
qui passe dans les cours d’eau
prendre ce qui lui faut
et revient
chorus=>The shoebill of the nile
that passes through the waterways
to take what it needs
and returns
En ressentant les hommes qui la chassait
Elle survolait les champs et la forêt
De ses grandes ailes étirées
=>She feels the man who haunted her
She flew over the fields and the forest
Of its large stretched wings
Elle occupait une citerne souterraine
près d’un lac, ou dans la brume
=>She occupied an underground cistern
near a lake, or in the mist
Le bec-en-sabot du nil
passe les cours d’eau
prend ce qui lui faut
et revient
me chercher
parmi les oeufs
Chorus=>The shoebill of the nile
passes the waterways
takes what it needs
and comes back
to find me
among the eggs
et moi je flotte
Rattachée à ses grandes griffes
J’éclos
=>and I float
Attached to his big claws
I hatch
On survole les crocodiles
Les hommes du nils
et tous ces fous
=>We fly over the crocodiles
The men of the nils
and all those mad people
Et puis
On tombe
=>And then
We fall
Je pensais être un de ses semblables
mais un clairon sonna
et d’un rire espiègle
elle me mangea
=>I thought I was one of his kind
but a bugle sounded
and with a mischievous laugh...
she ate me
Le bec-en-sabot du nil
passe toujours dans les cours d’eau
et prend ce qui lui faut
mais ne revient plus
=>The shoebill of the nile
always passes through the waterways
and takes what it needs
but never returns
