Fashion Painting Analysis

Fashion Painting Analysis - image 1 - student project

After the death of Queen Victoria, the Edwardian Era started. At first, this may be just a painting of a lady dressed in a luxurious outfit. Wearing a white dress symbolizes purity and innocence. However, this S shape silhouette was an idealistic view by King Edward VII of how a lady should look by using a bustle skirt and corset. In 1903, designer Paul Poiret decided to remove petticoat skirts, bustles, and corsets so women could dress more comfortably. To this day, no woman is no longer forced to tight-fitted corsets and bustles under their clothes to gain attention from others.
