I have really enjoyed the lessons in this class to build my confidence in sketching and painting birds -- loose, but precise! The lessons on bird anatomy and wings was so incredibly helpful. Also, the layering of paints, starting with light washes and then gradually adding darker layers was a great technique, as well as laying down brushstrokes in the direction of the feathers. I started my project with our favorite backyard bird that visits our feeder with homemade suet -- the darling Chestnut-backed Chickadee! My plan is to sketch our 2 other favorites -- the Downy Woodpecker and Northern Flicker. Thanks, Julia for a wonderful class!
