Engraving Style Tarantula

I took some photos years ago at the NC Zoo in Raleigh, NC. Here's one of a tarantula that I thought would be a good subject to practice engraving style.

I took all that I've learned from Chole's classes, and tried to put it into practice: Namely the separation of layers 3 layers here: Tarantula (main focus),  branch, and the plants. From this class, I concentrated on progessively staging my line work in passes (sure, I need more practice, but I'm getting better!)
I think the tarantula came out ok, but my biggest dissapointment with this attempt is the plants. I could not figure out what conture/cross-contour to use in order to get the effect of the leaves I wanted. Looking at the photo, I can see there are lots of white/light areas in the plant veins (or whatever they're called) I got a little lost in the sauce. @cholegenderon can you help me?
