Editing My First Marathon Story into a Short-Form Video

Editing My First Marathon Story into a Short-Form Video - student project

For my project in Master Short Form Video Editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, I created a video about running my very first marathon.

This project gave me a chance to demonstrate two things for students:

  1. Practical editing techniques – using pacing, rhythm, music, color correction, and audio work to craft a short-form video that feels polished.

  2. Working with personal material – choosing a subject I care about (in this case, running) and shaping it into a project example that supports the class content.

Earlier this year, I completed my first marathon—my first official race—and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Editing this project allowed me to connect that personal milestone with the class material, showing how strong editing choices can turn any subject into an impactful video.

I don’t often talk much about running, but I wanted to include this project because it connects editing skills with something meaningful from my own life. I also know that many creative people value sports and health, so this felt like a natural way to bring those worlds together. Hopefully it encourages you to choose a story that matters to you and apply the same editing techniques to make it shine.
