Early Female Photographers
This project is the rare lucky break one gets from multitasking: while watching the tutorials, I was cleaning out my bookmarks, and one of them was an article on early female photographers. This was a great fit for the project: vintage-themed, educational, and with a certain social relevance.
The article discussed five women, but one was more of a model than a photographer and one was born in the 20th century, which was a but too late. This narrowed it down just three stamp subjects. Perfect!
I didn't make a moodboard, but I did read up on all three women and looked their up their portraits. The sketches came by really fast, because I'd recently discovered the work of Fatti Burke and I'd been wanting to imitate her style.
I tried to add stuff related to the women's biographies to the portraits: e.g., Atkins was a botanist and is considered to be the first author of a photographically illustrated book, so I googled her photos of algae and plants and drew them on her stamp.
After coloring the sketches in Photoshop, I added some grit for texture and voila! Done.
