Drawing and Sketching Vol. 3.
Here are my drawings and thoughts as I work through the class.
The study was very interesting - to compose items using the relationship between themselves and not a kind of grid. A useful intro to the subjects.
I wish I could get my cross hatching looking a bit more tidy.

Carrer del Paradis.
This is an interesting area. I will have to visit.
I found the idea of a quick sketch in Vol.2. useful and thought about doing some studies of the overall composition and various parts before doing the whole picture. In retrospect I should have tried the balcony and overhanging roof on the left :-) as I found these quite a challenge.
I changed the aspect ratio a bit so it would fit on my 1:1,3 aspect paper and added some additional building extensions to the right. That meant of course more bricks to do - ha ha.
The overhanging roofs and veranda on the left were a challenge and I made several mistakes with these in size and angle to get the perspective looking at least believable - so its bit smudgy in those areas. I also darkened the right side extensions so that it balanced a bit the left wall.
I explored changing the time of day to more of an evening picture and added a personal touch of turning the lights on. I don't think it looks too bad and lightened up the far building so that it might look like the light is shining down the alley onto it sideways on.
Overall, i think I'm happy with my picture. I'm sure there is more I could do, so I'm open to comments.

Final drawing Carrer del Paradis:

Sketch of Corner Building.
30 minutes ! :-)
I though I was doing fairly well on time until I looked at the clock. The first picture took 45 minutes. Adding some colored pencil shading took another 15. In spite of the time I think I did better with this sketch in a first round than I did with the station in vol2. I was quite slow at the start with some of the construction lines and speeded up as I got more into the picture. Looking at the example, I could probably have saved some time by being a bit 'looser' with some of the shading in the windows.

Colored pencil added.

The Old Alley
This is the second drawing I did. The first one was on some sketchbook paper to get some practice. I was not sure where the light was coming from to start - above right and slightly behind the viewer I think.
I did not spent much time on the cabling top right - so I left it vague. Flower box perhaps? I could have put a window there?
My lamp seems to have grown - but I quite like old lamps and its interesting. I think I managed a better job of just using angles to build the various items this time - although doesn't show in the picture. I tried to put more detail in the view of the street in the background to help guide the viewer.
I will have to look through my photos from visits to old cities over the weekend and see what I can draw. My wife says it reminded her of Dickens and some old London streets :-).
