Country Landscape (via the struggle bus)

Country Landscape (via the struggle bus) - image 1 - student project

I can look with some distance and say I don't hate this painting now but, man, it was a struggle!

First, the photo and scan both show pinky colours in the sky - they are not there in real life, I'm not sure if it's just my computer screen but thought I'd mention!

Things seemed to be going well for the first third then everything seemed to go wrong. My ugly stage was too ugly, the colours looked wrong and muddy, my sketch wasn't strong enough so things felt off - I was so ready to quit! I actually said out loud, "I'm giving up, I hate this painting"

I struggled through the rest of the lessons, grumbling to myself, fighting against the painting instead of with it buuuut I finished it! I let myself be uncomfy in my art and my abilities and grew a little instead of giving up 🤩

The painting is actually one of the best landscapes I've ever painted and I'm very proud of it (but we're still not friends)! Thank you for the detailed tutorial, I'm not sure I'll be painting it again but might ave a bit more courage to do another landscape when I'm in the mood :)

Painted on 300gsm 100% cotton cp Saunders and Waterford paper, paints are Van Gogh, Daniel Smith, Winsor & Newton (Cotman), white gouache
