Colorful Rose

Second Rose. I think my background is a bit smoother and better contrast with the darks and llights. I might be imaginging it, but hope I made some improvement.LOL. But enjoyed painting the second rose. Roses are challenging for me. It kind of looks like a rose. I just need to draw and paint more roses. For the green under the flower I used cobalt green and a cooler yellow in the rose. Those were the only changes in paints for the second rose.

I bought DS Cobalt Teal Blue and Cobalt Violet Deep.  Did some swatching and love these two new colors. I included some colors I already had and used in the first painting. So the conclusion I came to and kind of knew already but this really sealed the info in my brain is that its not just the pigment, but all the qualities of how the paint is processed that makes a difference in what you are trying to achieve. For example with the Cobalt Teal from QOR and the one from Daniel Smith one is semi transparent and DS is transparent ( I think I got the information right) And it helped with making that beautiful mix with the DS Cobalt Violet Deep which is also transparent. I noticed that DS Cobalt Teal Blue looks so green on their swatches online, but actually is very close in color with QOR's Cobalt Teal also a PG50.  When I used the Seaglass from DaVinci which is a beautiful color and love it, it just was too staining  and not as transparent as the DS PG50.   Well, this has inspired me to start this project again with the intended colors. Stay tuned!

I went heavy on the paint for the study/practice, too heavy. I tried different color paints till I found the best mixing paints. The rose was painted with Pyrrole orange (QOR) , Seaglass (Davinci), And a combo of Carbazole Violet (Daniel Smith) and Manganese Violet (Turner).  The pyrrole orange worked better than the transparent pyrrole orange.  This project was a challenge for me... but I enjoyed it. I will practice some more with the mixing using less paint. And I am not good at all with roses (drawing or painting) So I need to paint more roses!  LOL. I did mix in some Cobalt Teal (QOR) with the Seaglass on some areas to make it a bit more blue.
