Clouds in Pencil & Watercolor

Clouds in Pencil & Watercolor - student project

I am a big fan of Sarah's Youtube channel, so definitely wanted to do this class when I found it here on Skillshare.

Did my cloud practice with pencil on toned paper as well as watercolor. I finished this class at the end of August and finally getting around to posting to my class project.

Not sure why I am always reluctant (lazy) to do thumbnails.  Whenever I do I find it fun and helpful.  Did a few larger pencil thumbnails to start with.

Then proceeded to try some clouds with graphite pencil & white pencil on toned paper.  This is a newer medium to me and was fun doing to value scale.  I found that unfortunately I did not stick with my intended composition from the thumbnails.

Then a few loose watercolor cloud studies from the class references photos.  Tried to be more bold in adding grays than I normally would.  These were done in an Arteza watercolor sketchbook and this paper unfortunately was not the greatest for this exercise.

Was an interesting shift of perspective to view clouds as the subject instead of an incidental part of the painting.
