Hey! It’s great to receive another project from you. Great job for continuing to compose, create and develop your practice! This a cool set of chords. I like the mix of major and minor. It’s got a real grunge feel to it. Nice! When I was playing along, I make the chords - Aminor - Gminor - A#major - G#. But that’s probably because our guitars are out of tune to each other. We’re basically playing the same progression, but two frets apart. Also, I’m not sure if you are playing the last chord as a minor, but I personally think it resolves well if you pull the major note instead. But that could just be personal preference! Two minor chords and then two major chords sounds pretty good I think. Power/barre chords are tricky. That require a lot of effort from our hands and fingers. They’re an awkward shape and use a lot of strength. So, the fact you’re moving through these chords is a great start. But like you say, some of the notes lose clarity. As you begin to repeat the progression, some notes fade away - but this is completely normal! Our hands will tire quickly when learning new shapes and progressions. But I promise this will improve with regular practice. If you’re noticing that some of the notes are muted and not sounding clearly, then try taking things back to basics. Just single strum each chord. Leave a gap of a ‘4 count’ in between each and make sure that every note is sounding nice and clear, before you move to the next chord. Once those single strums are sounding lovely and each note/string is ringing through, then start to apply the strumming pattern. You could also try and play them without the addition of the ‘minor’ note, so that your fingers have slightly less work to do. And once you are changing chords confidently in this way, then bring in the addition of that minor note. Hope that helps! And keep creating. I love to hear it.

First of all, I did a mistake in the description when naming the chords. I checked again and the chords you described is what I was actually playing aside from the last chord being G# minor instead of major (tho I know I kinda lost the shape there so the notes got a little lost). I updated the description.

I tried replacing the last chord with a major and I also think it sounds better.

I also have a question about how would I go about creating some lead over those chords. I've been following the course from Mike about music theory <a href="https://skl.sh/3RILnm9" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">skl.sh/3RILnm9</a> and I know about the circle of fifths. If I understand correctly then Am, Gm A# all belong to the F key (which would suggest using F scale?) but then what about G# ? Is it okay for the chord to still be in this progression or do I get something about the key wrong? If it's okay, how would you write this using the roman numerals notation?

It’s great to hear you have been trying some lead work over the guitar - and that you’ve been working through Mikes class. He is a great teacher! 

So.. this level of theory can get quite complex, but this will hopefully help. 

You are spot on about the key. The chords Am, Gm A# can all be found in the key of F. You also have what’s known as a relative minor key. In this instance, Dminor would be F Majors relative minor. It basically means they are made up of the same notes, but they emphasise different ones and start in a different place. F Major would start on F. D Minor would start on the ‘D’ note. If you wish, while playing these scale shapes, you can emphasise the notes of the chords you are playing, to add further definition to them. 

Next level - the G# (or Ab) chord actually appears in the key of Fminor. When this happens, it is known as a ’parallel key’ and we can ‘borrow chords’ from these keys, to add to the progression we are playing. F major and F minor would be parallel keys (they have the same starting note, but different progressions). 
You will also sometimes hear these chords referred to as ‘borrowed chords’ or ‘non-diationic chords’ (chords that appear outside of the key we are playing in). When you reach this G# chord, you could simply accent the G# note and add it to your scale. You could also play the 3 notes that make up the G# chord (G#, C, D#). 

In theory there is no ‘wrong’ in music. You can grab chords from wherever and throw any of them alongside each other. Music is subjective and it’s all about what you think sounds good. Having ‘keys of music’ just gives us a guideline of what sounds more harmonic alongside each other and a reference for what shapes/order of notes we can play or start with.

I still have trouble with getting the these chords to ring out properly every time so for reference the progression I was going for is A minor - G minor - A# major - G# minor.
