Firstly thank you for creating the Motion Builder courses; it's hard to find professional courses in this field. I am glad I have such an opportunity and have two more of your materials left to do.

As for the assignment, Eric's characterization was uneventful. The only thing that annoyed me sometimes was the random selection of mesh instead of bones in a viewport. Is there any option in Motion Builder to disable mesh selection like in Maya?

As a test, I tried to apply the course material on my character/rig, knowing it is a pretty non-standard case: it has no shoulders and extra joints in its legs and arms. Ultimately, I could not characterize this character and wondered why: is it a matter of character design/rig or my lack of proficiency in Motion Builder? Or both.

I'd love to hear your professional opinion about it!

UPDATE:

 

So I went back to my rig and discovered that some issues were rig-related (the very construction) and some were export related: instead of exporting _BIND bones in the legs hierarchy, I exported FK bones. I fixed the export and revisited Motion Builder, and characterized it again.

Regarding hips and root joint in this specific rig: their roles are f-ed up, because hips work like a root bone. And when I assign hips to the hips, well, this happens:

 

So, all in all, I made it function, but the rig's construction issues are imo too deep to make it truly work.

I downloaded a rig from the web and characterized it, and honestly, a good rig is a blessing.
