I did this piece for the 36 Days of Type on Instagram. This is the letter C. 

“The Land of C was a beautiful and dangerous place. Like most kingdoms, its beauty had sprung from and was intensified by its danger. A summons to the castle was a gift and a curse.”

Instead of working on paper and inking at the end, I used a digital pencil and digital watercolor. I wanted my castle to exist inside a larger fairy tale structure. There is the sword, the knight, the skull, the memento mori of inevitable death and the danger of the dragon. I wanted it to look something like an illuminated manuscript and a window into a storybook.

I loved the simple but effective ideas for line work from the class for the castle part and it was a blast adding some of my own details to this structure.
