I created this in an Arteza sketchbook that I had sitting around because I didn’t really like the paper. Prepainting the backgrounds made it much more appealing though. I used different colored inks on various pages, but forgot to take a picture of this page before starting the butterfly sketch. 

I worked from a picture I had taken of a butterfly in my backyard, and used watercolor, gouache, colored pencils, and neocolor. I really like how it turned out, very soft and dreamy. The background seemed to help me focus less on just copying what I saw; instead, I just tried to get an impression of the scene.
