Bird and butterflies
I was inspired by the bright red flowers I currently have on my balcony for this project, and then wanted to incorporate a bright colour palette. The butterflies I see here aren't as brightly coloured, but I went for bold brights to be the colour theme. I wanted that to be the tie for the separate compositions. And then I drew a bright and colourful bird to again connect to the theme. I had originally used a pale blue coloured pencil for the background, but upon reflection it wasn't giving enough 'pop', so I went over it with the marker and I'm really pleased with the result. Thanks for the class, Kristina; I've never used tape before or considered putting smaller compositions together like this on one page. I also hadn't really given much thought to colour theme; I had previously just gone with colours I like! But I love the idea of tying them together like this. I also had never thought about "ugly" sketchbooks and "pretty" sketchbooks; I've now started with both of those! I'm a complete beginner so this class really helped me think a great deal. Adding a photo of my sketch so you can see the beginning and end of process! Toucan got a much smaller beak in the end result :)
