I thought a good way to learn would be to do an animation for a character in my dungeons and dragons campaign - Bill Barrelman, a retired pirate who lives in a barrel.

 

I enjoyed the tutorials, and I think I now have a good starting knowledge in both inkscape and dragonbones. Here's hoping that I will learn more through playing with them further :)
