Retratos en acuarela: pinta rostros realistas mediante la mezcla y las capas

This is my 2nd take on the baby girl. First one wasn't very well done, I used crappy paper, and Tanja's voice was going way too fast. Anyway, take 2 and it is a big nightmare. I played with this for hours. Lifting off the paint, and redoing again, and again. I really don't think Portraits are for me. I am very upset with the mess I made of this one. Sorry Tanja.

I actually see a lot of positives about your second attempt and I can tell the paper is better! the skin is nice and even without hard edges, and although there may be room for improvement, the shading around the mouth/chin is actually pretty good! - you also managed to make the cheeks look 'rounded' by using multiple values. The lips are beautiful and I really like those 'swift brush strokes' you have around the outer edge of the hair - they add a beautiful texture. Portraits are challenging! If I may make a suggestion, I'd recommend you to do some portrait studies using graphite, or even gouache to practice and get familiar with drawing/shading faces and the features thereof. Human faces are difficult - but repetition is key.You can also do some studies of individual features in watercolor - like an eye, nose or mouth. It'll be a smaller, more manageable project, and it won't be as frustrating if it doesn't turn out the way you'd like because it won't be quite as much time ''wasted'',. Although even when a painting doesn't turn out, the time spent is never wasted - every piece and every attempt will give you experience.

I'm sorry you had problems with your paper (read your review). I am however slightly confused that you wrote the quality of the video was poor? the video shows crisp/clear footage 1080p. I don't think you did a bad job, but I understand the frustration when supplies are working against you. Portraits are considered one of the most challenging subjects, and watercolor is considered one of the most challenging mediums - so the fact that you still completed the portrait in spite of those struggles is awesome! Thank you for sharing

Thanks Tanja.  I am going to paint this again on my better paper.  Hopefully the quality of the video will be better.  

if your connection doesn't load the video well, it can help to pause the lessons and allow them to load for a while. Hope you'll be able to watch the class at full quality (if your internet connection allows it)

I looked on my iPad this morning.  That is a better quality, so I will watch your tutorial on that.   Thank you Tanja
