Autumn Landscape w/Will
I have been eyeing this project for a long time, and we will soon have beautiful autumn colors here, so now was the time!
I have a very difficult time with landscapes, and only have done a few. This was an extreme challenge for me! Will is a wonderful teacher, so the challenge is all on my end!
I used Arches paper and DS cerulean blue, lavender, quincadrone rose, parrot scarlet, new gamboge, and Burnt umber, and a touch white gouache. I did a lot of mixing on the pallet.
I always learn so much from Will!
One thing that I personally need to do (Note to self!!!)is to really study some reference photos and make clear observations and decisions, such as where are the lights and shadows, etc before I start painting. . As I was observing real trees today, I noted I should have left more open space on the trees where the sky shows through the web of leaves.
The painting didn't photograph well, and looking at it the water doesn't look as vibrant as I want, but I am a little afraid to go back now and muddy colors.
This is a wonderful class, a chance to be expressive and bold with color. I did add maybe a tad more detail, but sometimes fiddling away at little details is relaxing for me, strange as that may be!
Thank you, Will for another wonderful class!!!
Edit: added image different room lighting.
