Amazing Sea Turtles

Recently I paid a visit to the Sea Life, where I saw sea turtles for the first time. They amazed me from the first moment and I realised that they would be the perfect subject for this class.
I divided an A4 page into four sections and I created the underpainting using acrylic inks. I didn't think too much about colours, I just mixed them randomly. I love how deliberating this process is.
The next step was to draw the sea turtles, fishes and some sea plants. I started to draw with colouring pencils, but I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the outlines, so I switched to regular pencils, so it wouldn't be too defined. Then I painted the negative space around the shapes, defining the water.
I left the whole work to dry and stay for a day. Then I came back and I started drawing, painting, sketching (having fun) with watercolour and then with colouring pencils. It was nice to see how the whole sketch came to life. This is my final result.
I had another page prepared with ink. I just gave myself 15 min to create these sketches, both from photos I took earlier while walking in Cambridge. I didn't think too much, I just went with the flow. This technique is not just very deliberating and playful but addictive as well.
After watching the class I just played a bit with negative painting:
I'm thrilled that Ohn Mar shared this unusual technique in this class. It's definitely something I would like to explore more in the future.
