2D Hand-Drawn Animation Project - Lesson with Tom Bancroft

2D Hand-Drawn Animation Project - Lesson with Tom Bancroft - student project

Wow, I don't even know how to express in words how happy I am. This was my very first hand-drawn animation, frame-by-frame, drawing each sheet. I confess I'm going through two completely new experiences here. One is traditional animation, I had never heard of terms like 'charting,' 'rolling,' using underlines to indicate breakdown poses, and using 'x' to show when an easy in happens. The other novelty is drawing itself, which I've been studying. I took a few years away from 3D and decided to return to animation, but this time in a traditional way. I felt this calling, this love awakening. But my biggest challenge has been drawing. That's why my other challenge was to make 12 drawings for this animation, drawing the same objects across all frames. I thought about giving up so many times... but I'm happy I went all the way. This 1 second of animation was totally worth it.

Tom, look, I have no words to thank you. Really grateful to Skillshare for being able to bring in a top-level animator who even worked at Disney!! Wow, I feel like I'm fulfilling a childhood dream right now. Really grateful that the internet can connect me with so many masters like Tom. I'm really grateful for this opportunity I'm having. I know the road is long, and i'm no longer a young man but I'll keep practicing, studying, and trying, for the love of the process... and the result will just be a consequence.
