Featured Class: Learn How To Draw: Fun & Easy Exercising for Nailing Proportions, Shading, and More
Drawing is a learned skill and we all start as beginners! In this intensive one-class workshop, illustrator Brooke Glaser will guide you through the basics of proportion, shading, and getting in the “drawing zone.” This workshop will include weekly critiques of select projects and video demonstrations. You’ll also have weekly project-based challenge assignments, and plenty of interaction with Brooke and the workshop community. You can use your iPad and Procreate for this workshop, or stick with a pen and paper. If you are new to drawing and ready to jump right in, this is the workshop for you!
Workshop Timeline
Week 1: First up, watch lessons 1-4 and try your hand at upside down and shape drawing. These are great techniques for seeing an image as lines and shapes rather than recognizable figures or objects. You’ll focus on where lines are in relation to each other and create a whole image by zooming in on the parts. Share your drawings in the Project Gallery by May 11th.
Week 2: Next up, watch lesson 5, based on accurately replicating what you see with the grid method. You’ll learn how to to scale an image up or down without losing the proportions. Share your drawings in the Project Gallery by May 18th.
Week 3: Next up, watch lessons 6-10 and learn all about drawing from imagination, creating shadows, and navigating Procreate (remember that it is also just fine if you are drawing with analog tools). For this week’s project, focus on lessons 8-10 on shadows. Share your drawing in the Project Gallery by May 25th.
Week 4: This week, watch lessons 11-13. You’ll learn how to create visual interest with a variety of line qualities. Share your final drawing in the Project Gallery by June 1st.
