Welcome to the first ever Skillshare Family Art Camp workshop! Whether you’re looking for some fun family activities or yearning for more remote summer learning opportunities for your little ones, you’re in the right place. From freeform doodles to step-by-step how-to’s, each class will challenge and delight while providing real foundational instruction in drawing and painting. This family-friendly workshop is designed for parents and kids to learn together. The activities are appropriate for early elementary and up. Parents are responsible for supervising their child's learning during the workshop.
Supplies list: plenty of paper; your favorite markers, colored pencils, or pens; and watercolors (if you decide to take the bonus class: Easy Watercolor Sweets & Treats).
Workshop Timeline
- Milestone 1: First up, join artist Olga Bonitas in Spark Creativity with Your Kids, a creative experiment for the whole family. The fun activity in this class will help you let go of expectations and follow your child’s lead. First, you’ll draw freely, creating all sorts of shapes, lines, and scribbles. Then, you’ll transform those abstract images into characters. Anything goes! Share your creations in the Project Gallery by July 22nd.
- Milestone 2: Next, in Building Kids’ Confidence Through Drawing: 12 Art Projects for Children and Beginners, artist and educator Em Winn walks you through creating images, step-by-step. This is a great class for entertaining rambunctious youngsters, and will help build everyone's coordination and artistic confidence. Share your drawings in the Project Gallery by August 1st.
- Milestone 3: Then, join artist Yasmina Creates in You Can Draw Anything! In 3 Simple Steps. Now that you’ve followed step-by-step instructions, start imagining those steps for yourself to develop an artist’s eye. Yasmina walks you through how to break down an image into simple shapes, to help with proportion, and to make drawing anything much easier. This class is a bit more advanced, but everyone will benefit from the perspective shift, and can start seeing the shapes and lines in the objects around them. Share your drawings in the Project Gallery by August 10th.
- Bonus: If your family is eager to keep going, try out Yasmina’s Easy Watercolor Sweets & Treats. Learn to paint ice cream, chocolate-covered strawberries, donuts, and more! Share your paintings in the Project Gallery by August 10th.
