Milestone 1: First up, join author and columnist Meghan Daum in Writing Personal Essays: Craft a Powerful, Unique Piece in Three Steps. Meghan shares her process for giving voice to the things she struggles to express. Through examples and exercises, Meghan shares a simple framework for writing about the most powerful and mundane moments with honesty, humor, and craft. Share your work-in-progress or finished work in the Project Gallery by June 1st.
Milestone 2: Next up, join author Kathy Fish in Descriptive Writing: Crafting Vivid, Immersive Scenes. You’ll learn how to enliven your descriptions to create “felt experience” for your readers, without going too far. This class demystifies the process of descriptive writing with plenty of concrete examples and practical advice. Add some juicy descriptive writing to your personal essay and share an excerpt (or the whole thing!) in the Project Gallery by June 15th.
