Workshop Timeline

Week 1: We’ll kick off the workshop by learning the approach of Gabriel Picolo, the illustrator and comic artist with over 1.6 million followers on Instagram! In his class, Character Illustration: Drawing Facial Expressions, Figures, and Clothing, you’ll follow a series of exercises designed to help you fine-tune your character’s persona through their pose, expression, and clothing. You’ll share your final sketch in the project gallery by November 5th.
Week 2: Next up, we’ll focus on creating stylized female characters with illustrator Gabrielle Brickey’s class Design a Female Character: Sketching Portraits with Pencils. In just under a hour, Gabrielle breaks down the sketching process feature by feature in easy to follow steps. You’ll create your own female character design and share it in the project gallery by November 12th.
Week 3: Lastly, we’ll take Draw a Circus of Characters: Exploring Body Shape and Body Proportion. In this class, illustrator Nina Rycroft shares her process for creating quick and easy character drawings by breaking the body proportions down into simple shapes. You'll create your own series of characters and share it in the project gallery by November 19th.
