Break out of your creative rut and bring some play to your day with these fun art projects! In this workshop, two artists teach you to use what you have at home to create your own one-of-a-kind art pieces. First you’ll create a paper collage of your favorite animal, then you’ll learn how to make cool abstract paintings with household items instead of brushes. Whether you’re a practicing artist looking to discover new offbeat techniques or just someone who wants a chill creative activity to help you unwind, this is your chance to get in the flow and create without pressure. To participate in this workshop, you need paper and at least one or two colors of paint. Any other supplies you have for making marks or shapes (including pens, colored paper and glue, glitter, or markers) will come in handy too!

Workshop Timeline

Milestone 1: First up, join Peggy Dean in Create a Playful Collage Animal: An Exploration in Mix Media. In this friendly, approachable class, Peggy walks you through making a fun mixed media collage featuring an animal of your choice. Play with techniques, shapes, and textures, including paint strokes, torn paper edges, cutout text and photos, and even confetti. Share your finished collage to the Project Gallery by August 23rd.
Milestone 2: Next up join Cornelia Zelinka-Bodis in Unlock Your Creativity: Mark Making with Everyday Objects. Cornelia leads you through six experimental painting projects to get you into a state of creative flow. You’ll use nontraditional painting tools like hair combs, toothbrushes, bottle lids, and bubble wrap. Get ready to come out of this class with a refreshed creative outlook and some surprisingly sophisticated new painting techniques in your toolbelt. Share your paintings to the Project Gallery by September 6th.
