Starting on Sunday, May 15, let's spend time doing something we love: painting.
Join me for a hands-on, exclusive two-week workshop in making modern art. This is perfect for the absolute beginner as well as experienced artists who want to loosen up their style and allow inspiration to flow.
I will cover all the details you need to get started:
- canvas and paints
- types of brushes
- the master artists who inspire us, Kandinsky and Mondrian
- how to choose a personal stamp for your piece (optional step)
- and more!
This workshop is designed to be an enjoyable challenge. Students can be enrolled in either my Mondrian or Kandinsky course. I will refer to one painting by Mondrian throughout as a guide, but you can choose Kandinsky another abstract painting by another artist as your reference. You'll get the guidance you need step-by-step, to help you stay on course. But I will encourage you to use your imagination and paint to your heart's content.
I’ll be contacting you along the way, encouraging you to stay on track with the workshop deadlines and goals. In the end, you’ll choose subject matter and colors that appeal to you to complete your final project.
WHAT YOU'LL GET
Guided Experience: I will personally guide you through this workshop to help you learn how to become a modern art master.
Feedback: Each of you will receive personalized 1-on-1 feedback from me throughout the process.
Intimate Learning Environment: We will experience it together and support one another along the way!
The fun part: PRIZES
The workshop features three giveaways for participants who work hard and post their projects.
One student who does an excellent job on his or her project will receive one year of Skillshare membership for absolutely free!
A second student who makes strong contributions to the workshop will receive a cookbook illustrated by talented contemporary artists. Check out They Draw And Cook here.
A third student who makes significant contributions to the class and workshop will receive a package of 4 original postcard works by artist Erik Davis. To see more of Erik's work, check out his beautiful watercolors on his website.

- Make sure you’re enrolled in one of these classes: Abstract Art with a Twist: Personalize Kandinsky or Abstract Art with a Twist: Personalize Mondrian.
- Begin watching the video lessons to learn the skills you need to complete the project.
- Check your inbox! You will receive a daily email outlining which project step to complete next.
- Share your project phases in the class project gallery (or use the tab above -- your project will display here within this workshop and in the class project page, also) according to the workshop timeline below.
- Keep an eye out for feedback and be sure to provide support and encouragement to your classmates, as well. The best learning experience on Skillshare is collaborative!

- Upload your finished project to the project gallery by Saturday, May 28, at midnight EST to successfully complete the workshop.
- I'll announce winners on Sunday, May 29.
Note: If at any time, you fall behind on a step, don't worry! You can catch up easily. As long as you complete your project by the due date of Saturday, May 28, you will qualify for the giveaways.

- Step 1: Start your project in the gallery and share the general idea you will pursue.
- Step 1 Due: Thursday, May 19
May 20 - 23:
- Watch: Video Lessons 3 - 4 (under 8 minutes)
- Step 2: Share your project progress to get feedback on your color choices, general layout, and reference material
- Step 2 Due: Monday, May 23
May 24 - 28:
- Watch: Video Lessons 5 - 6 (under 10 minutes)
- Final Project Step: Submit your project with final touches. If you decide to personalize the piece, please post photos of this last step.
- Total Project Due: Saturday, May 28 by midnight EST
